As most of you know, mental illness and drug abuse are extremely prevalent in our area.
Since COVID-19, deaths have increased as a result of these issues. We desperately, especially now, need support and assurance from our civic leaders and lawmakers that everything possible is being done to help combat these horrific occurrences.
Tragically, the inpatient mental health and detox services at the Mary’s Avenue Campus of HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston have been moved to Poughkeepsie.
Please contact Michael Doyle, MD MBA CPE, executive director and chief medical officer of HealthAlliance at 396 Broadway, Kingston, to appeal the decision to have these services moved from Kingston.
Countless families in our area have suffered severely as a result of drug addiction or mental illness. You need only to walk in the shoes of someone who has experienced the devastating consequences or death of a loved one from these diseases — and, yes, they are diseases — to realize the urgency of this request.
I applaud Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan for supporting the return of this facility to Kingston.
