Las Cruces City Council to discuss legislative priorities, Mobile Integrated Healthcare

LAS CRUCES — The Las Cruces City Council will convene for a work session Oct. 26 to discuss its upcoming policy and capital project priorities for the 2021 New Mexico Legislative session.

Larry Horan, the city’s lobbyist, will present potential policy issues and capital funding priorities he may be directed to advocate for in Santa Fe in January.

The council will also hear from the Las Cruces Fire Department about its Mobile Integrated Healthcare program, which aims to help “individuals who call 911 frequently to access healthcare without any acute life-threatening condition” because they are disabled or lack transportation to access to health and social services.

The MIH program’s goal has been to ease the burden on the 911 system. The program was started in 2016.

Also on the city’s agenda will be the presentation about a forthcoming economic revitalization strategy for targeted areas of Las Cruces.

The Las Cruces Economic Development Department, through the Land Management and Real Estate Services program, are in the process of creating a redevelopment plan to achieve these goals, which also align with the city’s comprehensive plan, Elevate Las Cruces.

The presentation will “highlight the available tools in New Mexico and recommendations on best practices.”

The work session will follow a meeting of the city council acting as the board for the Downtown Las Cruces Tax Increment Development District. The TIDD Board meeting starts at 1 p.m.
