BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — With the recent rise of COVID-19 cases in Broome County, the Broome County Health Department says they are communicating with the local hospitals more than they have before.
Now, the health department is streamlining hospitalization data with both hospital systems in the county.
Each day the health department receives a list of the hospitalized patients.
Broome County Health Department director Rebecca Kaufman says this will allow the health department to have more accurate numbers more quickly.
“We would interview someone that has tested positive and they may be feeling ok but the next week or so they may end up hospitalized,” Kaufman said. “There could be a delay in us finding out this information.”
Kaufman says the health department wants to reassure residents the hospitals are safe and people should seek out the care they need.
“We don’t want to see a delay in care that results in further health complications,” Kaufman said. “Although there are more COVID-19 cases, we hope that people are making safe choices.”
Kaufman also mentioned the hospitals have been a great partner throughout the pandemic.
