NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Community Park District has been awarded a $30,000 grant and will build a fitness court near the New Lenox Commons, the park district said on its Facebook page.
The park district received the grant as part of the National Fitness Campaign grant program in the 2020 Healthy Cities campaign. According to the park district, the program is designed to activate public spaces by connecting trails, well-placed pedestrian infrastructure and community meeting points with a central outdoor gym facility called the Fitness Court.
The Fitness Court is a digitally connected platform for adults of all ages and abilities to develop healthy habits and maintain long-term wellness, the park district said on its Facebook.
“This is an exciting project for the park district because it promotes fitness and well-being both to our kids in New Lenox and for the public at large. I hope it becomes a community gathering space near the New Lenox Commons where public fitness classes can happen and everyone can use and benefit from it,” Greg Lewis, Executive Director of the park district, said in a release.
